WHEN SHOULD I HAVE MY TRIAL?
Every client is different, but the first thing I would suggest is that you definitely need to know the style of your dress as we need to know what the neckline will be. I would also advise not having it later than two months before as you need to leave a good amount of lead up time for your cut and colour. HOW LONG SHOULD I ALLOW FOR MY TRIAL?
Every client’s requirements are different and every makeup artist works at a different pace but on average I would say allow around three hours of daylight hours. It is important that the trial takes place during daylight hours as we are creating a daylight makeup which is extremely difficult to do if we are working in false light.
CAN I TRY MORE THAN ONE HAIRSTYLE?
Yes you can certainly try more than one, but we do ask clients to try and pin point their two favourites. If you have too many choices it can get confusing and can sometimes lead to an unsuccessful trial or a client who is still unsure of what they want. It is also difficult to maintain the hair if it is put up and taken down several times and can start to look untidy.
CAN MY BRIDESMAID AND MUM HAVE A TRIAL?
We don’t believe this is necessary unless they have any concerns about hair and makeup or are used to their own hairdresser in which case then yes of course they can have a trial. All we ask is that this is scheduled for the same day as the bride’s trial as it is more cost effective for the stylist.
DO I WASH MY HAIR THE MORNING OF THE TRIAL/WEDDING?
There seems to be a misconception that you shouldn’t have clean hair if you’re having it put up. If you arrive at your trial and your hair needs washing, the likelihood is, is that the hairstylist won’t be able to style it properly due to oil on the roots. This prevents us getting any root lift in the hair and is also unpleasant for the stylist. If you wash your hair every day then wash it the morning of the trial and wedding day. If you wash it every three to four days then the day before will suffice. Remember to ask your stylist whether they want your hair wet or dry for their arrival as this will depend on what styling is being done on the day. The same rule applies for bridesmaids and Mums.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU MANAGE ON YOUR OWN?
The maximum number of people we can manage are three adult hair and makeups. Hair is more time consuming than makeup so it could be that if you require five people for makeup only that this will only require one makeup artist. This information will be given to you at the time of booking when we send you your quote and will be down to Antonia’s discretion as to whether she feels it requires two people or not. An assistant fee of £100 is added to bookings over three people. This fee is subsidised by Antonia, so if due to the logistics of the morning, a second assistant is required, then this would be charged at the full rate of £180.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET EVERYONE READY THE MORNING OF THE WEDDING?
Again every artist is different and will do their own timings for the morning of the wedding, but on average, for three adult hair and makeups you will need around four and a half hours for hair and makeup. You then need to add on around thirty minutes dressing time for a corseted or buttoned up dress plus time for the photographer, if they want to take pictures of you fully dressed before you leave for the ceremony. This seems like a long time, but this is a specialist service where each person booked in for hair and makeup gets quality time and will have approximately and hour and a half spent on them, depending on their requirements and you will find the time will fly by.
CAN YOU STAY FOR THE SERVICE AND EVENING?
We can offer this service so please mention this at the time of booking so we can quote for it. We are happy to stay just till the end of the service or into the afternoon/evening if required. Price will depend on the number of extra hours required of us to stay.
HOW FAR DO YOU TRAVEL?
We have hair and makeup artists based in Berkshire, Surrey, London, Leeds and Nottingham. All of whom are happy to travel. Antonia travels internationally as well as all over the United Kingdom. In some cases travel charges are added and they will be listed on your quote at the time of booking. Any journey exceeding two hours will incur an overnight cost.
